In the past, our company has written off bad debts as many of our customers are transient and reside in the UK less than 2 years. The Sheriffs Office have been fantastic at recovering outstanding monies. In particular, we had judgement obtained for almost two years with no likelihood of receiving payment. I had a non paying builder whom I took through the ‘small claims court’ for payment, the court ruled in my favour for the sum of £2000 and gave the builder a county court judgement and one month to pay. One month later the court had not heard from him and said there was little they could do.
