Northampton pensioner relieved as BBC 1 show tackles rogue builders to recoup £4,000 cash

By David Carter on

Hilda Shaw, 86, paid a builder £4,000 out of her savings to do some work on her roof in June, however the work carried out was ‘shoddy and unnecessary’. Hilda got a County Court judgment and a High Court control and sent The Sheriffs Office in to enforce it.

The case was covered in the BBC 1 show “The Sheriffs Are Coming”, which showed the enforcement officers having to make two visits to the builder and, finally, coming away with Hilda’s money.

Hilda was delighted with the outcome, especially after all the stress and anxiety the whole experience had caused her. She is pleased she took part in the programme, especially as it may help warn others to make sure they know who they are giving their money to.
